Drudge Report: Ann Coulter Banned for Life from NBC

with one comment

The Drudge Report says conservative author Ann Coulter has been banned from NBC and its cable outlets for life for her critical views of President-elect Barack Obama.

“We are just not going to have her on any more, it’s over,” Drudge quoted a unnamed NBC executive.

She had been scheduled to appear on the Today show Tuesday morning, but was replaced by Perez Hilton at the last minute, Drudge’s web site reported. Drudge said that one unnamed network insider said it was her new book’s theme “Guilty” – a brutal examination of liberal bias in the new era – that got executives to pull the invitation.

“We are just not interested in anyone so highly critical of President-elect Obama, right now,” Drudge quoted a Today insider. “It’s such a downer. It’s just not the time, and it’s not what our audience wants, either.”

Drudge, using an unnamed source, said MSNBC host Joe Scarborough is said to be concerned with the new ban. “He’s working to overrule it,” a source was quoted as saying.

UPDATE: NBC has now offered Coulter a segment on Wednesday’s “Today,” Michael Calderon of Politico is reporting.

UPDATE 2: She apparently has accepted the segment. This story’s sourcing is a classic example of the problems in using only anonymous quotes. There was never any verification of a “ban,” and NBC’s side is not represented very well on the Drudge site.
